In this draping project, I designed a felt jacket specifically tailored for petite girls. The "All Dolled Up" jacket is a timeless wool jacket perfect for the fall and winter weather.
The design process began with a sketch and took off through draping techniques, pin proofing, and mockups, to ensure a perfect fit and design.
This jacket is structured with flat felled seams, a fully lined interior, and shoulder pads. It includes delicate details: a raised waist, princess style lines, and a peter pan collar with a stand. These elements work together to create a balanced and flattering look that flatters the short frame.
The "All Dolled Up" jacket fits as the perfect petite playful jacket for any occasion.
Process
- Starting with draping I created the bodice panels, center front, side front, center back, and side back. I pleated my fabric and strategically placed my pleats along the empire waistline.
- I trued my draped pieces and pin proofed them on the dress form.
-With the trued pattern pieces I created a mockup
-I made a few changed to the fit after finalizing the mockup, and constructed the final jacket.
Amazing how the jacket looks so cropped on the dress form!
